We will be having a bed turning at our upcoming quilt show, Ozark Festival of Quilts.
Not familiar with a bed turning? Bed turnings are traditionally social events where people would take turns telling stories over a pile of quilts. One by one the quilts would be “turned” then the story and history of each would be shared.
At our September meeting, Laura Gregory was kind enough to share her antique quilt that will be included at our show’s bed turning. Below is the story she shared with the guild.
“My grandmother was in a quilt club called the Busy Bees. My mother was about 10 and she embroidered a square. Most of the names were my grandmother’s cousins and or neighbors that lived off O Hwy., near the old Fairview school. The family name is King. Some of the other family names on the quilt are Hale, Hass, Sands, and several more.”
We hope you’ll enjoy the bed turning at our upcoming Festival of Quilts: Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8 at Rolla Middle School.
