Piece and Plenty at Paducah Show

Yvonne Meloy and May Black, members of the Rolla Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild entered Quilts this Spring in the Paducah 2018 Spring Quilt Week Show.  Quilts from all over the world may be viewed while visiting the Show in Paducah, Ky.   Several Piece and Plenty Members had the opportunity to attend the show and see their fellow member’s quilts on display his Spring.

Yvonne Meloy entered her quilt called Best Friends (there is a little mouse beside the Beautiful Elephant).  The quilt is Foundation Pieced and Quilted by Lee Linebarger, also of the PPQG. Several members have learned many quilting skills from Yvonne.

May Black created the Vintage Rose using the paper piecing method and machine piecing. The quilting was done by Juanita Long. The quilt is an example of the technique she teaches, certified by designer/instructor Judy and Bradley Niemeyer.  This quilt was May’s first quilt entered at the Paducah Show.  May has won ribbons at County Fairs and this past summer at the Missouri State Fair.

When the ladies were asked what prompted them to quilt and enter the show, Yvonne Meloy replied, “I never begin making a quilt with the idea that I will submit to AQS…it just happens.  By the time I am finished with a quilt, I am tired of looking at it!   All my quilts are given to family members.  Usually, someone will say something to the effect that their quilt should be submitted.  I admit they are bias but over the years, they have learned a great deal about quilts.  They are encouraged to use these quilts on a daily basis and to enjoy……..another quilt is always on the horizon, I began quilting a couple years after my mother died around 1995.   I had no experience but jumped in with both feet with a determination to complete the quilts she had in progress.  This was the beginning of my quilting journey.  We moved from St. Louis to Rolla in 2002 and I became a member of Piece & Plenty Quilt Guild.  I have taken many classes and continue to take classes.”
